National Research Institute of
Brewing (NRIB) |
|
Thank you for visiting the homepage of National Research Institute of Brewing (NRIB). The NRIB was established as Jozo-Shikenjo under the Ministry of Finance in May 1904; originally located at 97 Sakasagawa Aza, Takinogawa Ohaza, Takinogawa-mura, Kita Toshima-gun, Tokyo, the current address is Takinogawa, Kita-ku, Tokyo. The NRIB was founded to advance scientific research and technologies related to alcoholic beverages and to contribute toward improving the stability of their production and eventually to the quality of the beverages. The NRIB became the research organization of the National Tax Agency on the latter's inception in 1949. In 1995, the NRIB was relocated to its current address to Higashi-hiroshima city, Hiroshima Prefecture as per the Cabinet approval of "Transfer of National Administrative Organization." In 2001, the Independent Administrative Institutions System was introduced as part of overall government administrative reforms, and the institute was renamed the National Research Institute of Brewing and placed under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance (See "History of NRIB" for further details). The NRIB conducts advanced analysis and evaluation of alcoholic beverages, as well as fundamental and applied research on their brewing and dissemination to enable a suitable and fair imposition of liquor taxes, plan for sound development of the alcoholic beverages industry, and to enhance public awareness of alcoholic beverages. Activities are organized according to medium-term 5-year plans. In the third term, which began in April 2011, we are focusing on advanced analysis and evaluation linked directly to tax administration. The fundamental and applied research conducted during this term will focus on the development of analytical methods and research that will provide the theoretical background for the advanced analysis and evaluation. We will also be revising tasks related to quality assessment and the provision of short educational courses. We will disseminate the results of our studies and research to the related industries via patents, papers, and other publications. Private sector funding will be promoted for collaborative research with universities and private companies. We will co-sponsor brewing contests and short courses with related private organizations. The National New Sake Awards will be continuously revised to contribute to improving the quality of alcoholic beverages and brewing technology, an important task related to quality assessment. The NRIB sponsors training courses for the manufacturers of sake, shochu, beer, and wine. Until date, more than 4200 individuals have successfully completed this training and have gone ahead to play central roles in the industry. Implementation methods for these courses will be continually revised to improve their effectiveness. In addition, "Sake Seminar" the workshop for distributors of alcoholic beverages, will be co-sponsored with wholesalers and retail trade associations. The NRIB also sponsors sensory evaluation seminars and lecture series, publishes reports and offers facility tours to the public to further achieve and advance the medium-term goals. We also undertake various services to promote public awareness of our institute, as expressed by our motto, "A research institute for the public." We are grateful for your continued valuable support for the NRIB and look forward to continuing to serve you in the future. |
